The ultimate Tech Lab

Back in late May, Google unveiled an early developer preview of a new “online tool for real-time communication and collaboration.” Google Wave merges message boards, e-mail, social-networking, wikis,and instant messaging- with drag and drop document sharing and live transmission to boot. Live transmission means that every character you type will instantly appear to other participants of a wave thread.

I’ve been using Google Wave for the past few days and while the interface sports a slick and nicely animated polish that I can assume we will eventually see in other Google products like Gmail, it is still clearly a work in progress. For example, I quickly found out the embarrassing way that you cannot yet remove contacts from a wave once they have been added. Sorry to those who I accidently added to my test threads. I don’t actually want you to give me any “bean soup.”

Speaking of which, the phrase “Can I borrow some bean soup” was used in the Google Wave introduction video to demonstrate context-driven, on-the-fly spellchecking. While it did accurately correct “been soup” to “bean soup” as promised, spellchecking isn’t yet as speedy or accurate as I’m sure it will be in the finished product.

One of the most exciting features of Wave that does work great is Playback. With Playback, you can step through a complicated message tree chronologically, so additions and edits appear as they were submitted. This is particularly useful to a late-comer in a conversation or for reviewing a long, branching thread.

In true Google fashion, Wave is cross-platform (including mobile), open source, and extremely extensible with Google Wave API’s. There are already several great add-ons, including extensions for video teleconferencing, Twitter integration, and of course collaborative games, such as Sudoku. Shiny!

Regarding Wave’s mobile integration, I tried my luck with iPhone’s Safari. Skipping the warning that my browser is not yet supported reveals a pretty decent, though sluggish and slightly incomplete mobile interface. It’s definitely not as slick as the desktop interface; still, I was able to view and post waves like a charm, which was enough to get me excited for the future of the product.

On September 30, Google released 100,000 public invites to Wave. If you didn’t already get one, you can sign up for the next round of invitations here. I know you’re anxious, but if you don’t get an invite right away, don’t fret- much like Gmail, more invitations will be released as Wave matures and is more suited for public use. Of course, there’s always eBay

GPush For iPhone

For business users, you may prefer a BlackBerry than an iPhone. As the BlackBerry allows you to have your emails such as GMail, Yahoo pushed to your device. If you’ve chosen iPhone simply because of it brings more fun, but you should also wish that it could do similarly what the BlackBerry does, pushing emails to you or at least from the GMail

Thanks to the new 99-cent application for the iPhone. Called the GPush, a GMail “pusher” application, which now allows the iPhone users to receive push notifications whenever there is a new message coming into your GMail inbox.

In GPush enter your Gmail username and password, and if you choose, you never have to open the actual app ever again. The app doesn’t even have anything besides the log-in screen. It technically works by using IMAP IDLE functionality which Gmail supports

And while IMAP IDLE is generally thought to be not as good as actual push, GPush works pretty well. which may have little delay between the mail hitting your inbox and the notification getting pushed from them to your phone. The lag could be around 10 to 30 seconds, which should be widely acceptable for most users.

GPush doing all the work in the background, on Tiverias‘ (the company behind the app) servers. You will still have to open the iPhone’s email app to read the email beyond the subject, but with GPush you will know when there is actually email there to read.

Features at a glance:

  • Instantly receive Gmail new message notifications on the iPhone
  • Set it and Forget it: All you have to do is download the app and decide how you want to be notified of new email. You never have to open the app again after that.
  • Improved battery life: GPush uses less battery since it relies on push notifications rather than data fetching (”pulling”)
  • Ability to see emails on the standby screen just like text messages
  • SSL Security Certificate used to ensure password security for GPush users

A scientific research shows that a normally a person learns 3 languages in his life. I do not know it is true or not (because I know 6 languages, oh! this makes me abnormal?) but the matter is now it is necessary to learn many languages because the whole world has become a global village. Yea! Everybody will give different examples of proof of being Global Village but you should believe it that without computer and Internet, even the concept of global village is impossible.

The biggest medium of communication in this global village is Internet. A good chatter has always over 30 friends around the globe and if the chatter knows other persons language, it will be a big tie for friendship. OK! Here is the problem. You are chatting to two or more persons, who are from different countries, at the same time. You are typing in their languages. Now here you need LangOver.

LangOver will help you quickly to change between languages in which you are chatting. It decreases the time span between shifts of languages. You can manage as many languages as you want. Remember! The respective language should be installed in your computer. If the language, you need, is not installed, you cannot type in that language.

The other feature which I like most is the transfer of lowercase letters into uppercase letters and vice versa. Indeed, it is very useful feature. Many times its happened I typed in lowercase but needed the text in uppercase, so problem. LangOver, simply, solved this problem. Type lowercase or uppercase letters and later, with help of LangOver, change the case of letters.

One more feature, if I do not write about will be injustice with LangOver. You are typing a document for some purpose and suddenly you needed to search on Google, simply type the word and select it. After selection, press Ctrl+G and web browser will open with a Google search of your word. Same action can be done for a whole phrase.

LangOver is a very light weight and free tool. It does not eat a lot of system resources. As it is free, there is no problem in testing it. I hope you will enjoy it as I do, especially, when I write article for my blog.

Access LangOver here.

A few days ago we discussed about the methods for avoiding large white spaces before tables in blogger here I'd like to present another simple method which is simple than the previous methods.

At the top of your post add this:

<style type="text/css">.nobr br { display: none }</style>

Then place your table within that class:
<div class="nobr">
<table border="1">
<tr>
<td>Mobile</td>
<td>5050</td>
<td>2009-01-12</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Laptop</td>
<td>11000</td>
<td>2009-01-12</td>
</tr>
</table>
</div>

That has the effect of turning off the display of the Blogger-generated line breaks within the div, causing the table to be rendered properly.

The table look like this in your browser

Mobile50502009-01-12
Laptop110002009-01-12

Note from Techfind:-

Unfortunately, both the "Compose" and "Preview" views of a post still render incorrectly, but when you actually publish, the table does come out right!

For some reason, we have HTML document in our computer and we want to have the info in Text format from that HTML doc, we will copy from HTML doc and paste that info in a Text doc. OK, it is the successful case if we have just few HTML docs. What if we have many HTML docs, will we do same procedure with all docs? No! at least, I will not do it because it is very tiring job.

There is a very simple tool called HTMLAsText which can convert a single HTML doc to Text doc as well as bulk of HTML docs to text doc. Think you have saved some HTML pages during web surfing. Later, when you are disconnected from Internet, you want to read those pages, it may possible that those pages will not display info in an order if you are not connected to Internet. You need internet connection again. But if you have HTMLAsText, you do not need Internet to visit that web page again to look the info in ordered form. HTMLAsText will display the info in ordered form in Text doc instead of HTML doc.

In fact, this is a very important tool. You do not need to install it. When it run, it does not store, change or associate to any file in your computer. You simply double click on the HTMLAsText and its window will open. Now choose the source HTML doc and the destination Text doc. Play with some formatting options shown on the HTMLAsText window and get Text file which is more readable compared to HTML file.

Features :-
  • HTMLAsText automatically removes all tags and scripts from the document.
  • The remaining text is formatted according to the number of characters per line that you select.
  • All HTML entities (e.g.: &amp, &lt) are converted into the corresponding ASCII characters.
  • Unordered lists (tag) and ordered lists (tag) are formatted accordingly. The bullets beside the items of unordered lists are replaced by ASCII characters according to your selection.
  • Definition lists are formatted by adding spaces in the left side of the definition lines.
  • Optionally, centered and right-aligned paragraphs are formatted accordingly by adding space characters in the left side of the lines.
  • Optionally, HTMLAsText allows you to add a line under each heading (tags)
  • Simple tables can be delimited by spaces, tab characters, commas, or CRLF.
  • Preformatted text blocks (tag) are copied "as is", without formatting the text.
  • You can convert multiple HTML files in the same folder at once, by using wildcard. (e.g.: c:\files\*.html)
  • You can run the conversion process without displaying any user interface, by using the /run command-line option.

The home page of HTMLAsText and a complete guide to use it can be accessed HERE.

All the bloggers out in the blogsphere was desperately waiting for smthing like s sheduled posting feature for blogger. Since this is the kind of feature that would make everyones blog updated regularly and it does provide a wide range of usability to different genre of bloggers.

Currently this feature is only available for use through Blogger in Draft (where we are able to test new widgets and features before their mainstream release). Luckily, all registered Blogger users are able to log in through draft.blogger.com to access their dashboards, so we can all access this great new feature right away!

How to schedule your posts

This is really easy! I've already tried this out myself, and can honestly say that it's no more "fiddly" than writing a regular blog post!

Simply log in to your blog through http://draft.blogger.com. The dashboard looks a little different but everything should still work in the same way.

Click on the link to create a new post, and type your post as normal. When you have finished, click on the "post options" link beneath your post:
Now change the date and time in the box to the right to those when you would like your blog to be published.
Finally, save your post, and you'll receive a message looking something like this:

When you now view your posts list in your dashboard, you will see your scheduled posts are highlighted with their date and time of publishing.

TechFind Says :-

As we see, this function let u compose and shedule your posts for a far long period say 1 week or so and in such situvaitons this newly added feature comes out to be very handy. Infact, posting by sheduled email
doesn't allow us to use images in our posts. Now many of us won't have to worry about maintaining our blogs while we're away from the computer: we can simply write them in advance... cool , uh ! :

Method I
Use SkipScreen. It is a free Firefox add-on that lets you skip all the clicking and waiting on sites like RapidShare, Zshare, MegaUpload, and Sharebee. Your downloads start instantly. All you need to do is to install the add-on, and open all the rapidshare links on a new tab. You will notice that SkipScreen tries to download all of the links but only 1 will get through and the rest will say that you are already downloading a file. Once the first file has finished downloading, SkipScreen will automatically starts to download the other parts…

Method II
In this method we can use a Greasemonkey script called RapidShare AutoWait. This script only works on RapidShare and it even hides the advertisements in RapidShare. First make sure you have Greasemonkey add-on installed, then click here to install the RapidShare AutoWait script.

Both methods above will still need to wait all those timeouts and countdowns, but you won’t have to sit in front of your computer to do that.

The important thing you should understand is that all firefox passwords are stored in three files

signons.txt, signons2.txt, key3.db

These files are stored in your firefox profile folder.

In Windows XP firefox profile is at:

c:\Documents and Settings\WindowsUsername\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\profilename

Copy these three files and save them where ever you want and if you want these passwords in your other operating systems also then just replace these three files.

Simple .. u r done :-).. njoy :-)
