Canon announce the launch of the feature packed Canon PowerShot G11 digital camera, the successor to the multi award-winning PowerShot G10 - the favourite compact of professional photographers. Professional photographers will benefit from the Canon G11’s greatly expanded dynamic range.
Canon’s new Dual Anti-Noise System combines a high sensitivity 10.0 Megapixel image sensor with Canon’s enhanced DIGIC 4 image processing technology to increase image quality and greatly improve noise performance by up to 2 stops (compared to PowerShot G10). The Canon PowerShot G11 also includes i-Contrast technology, which prevents high-light blowout whilst retaining low-light detail - ideal for difficult lighting situations

The premium quality Canon lens delivers picture-perfect performance, offering a 5x wide angle (28mm) zoom with optical Image Stabilizer (IS). This allows handheld shots to be taken at much slower shutter speeds (4-stops) than conventional non-IS models - allowing perfect shooting in darker conditions or at a lower ISO. The Canon PowerShot G11 also greatly reduces blur caused by camera shake, photographers can shoot at longer focal lengths and in lower light conditions without the need for a tripod.

Sony has added two new compact digital cameras to its Cyber-Shot range with the launch of the Sony Cyber-Shot WX1 and TX1. Two new mini compact cameras which offer detail snaps even if the light conditions are bad. The camera comes with the revolutionary Exmor R CMOS sensor that boosts sensitivity while reducing image noise for brilliant, detail-packed pictures.

Both pack a 10.2-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor, which Sony claims captures more light than conventional CMOS designs – and more of that means more natural, detail-packed images. They are as fast as to be able to take 10 frames per second.



The Cyber-shot TX1 is a stylish and slim model at 14 millimeters thick and comes with 4X Carl Zeiss lens and a 3-inch touchscreen and an optical image stabilization feature.
The Cyber-shot WX1 comes with a 2.7 inch LCD display, a 10.2 megapixel sensor. The WX1 sports a high-end f/2.4 Sony ‘G lens’ with 5x optical zoom and 24mm wide angle and can record video in 720p.

Panasonic have just added a new edition to their compact camera range the Lumix DMC-FP8. Which is reported to have the fastest autofocus in its class combined with a high-speed start-up of only 0.95 seconds. Its slimline body is built from high-quality aluminium and features a Leica DC Vario Elmar 28mm wide-angle lens with a 4.6x optical zoom.


Folding Optics for Futuristic Fashion

The DMC-FP8 features a high-quality LEICA DC VARIO ELMAR 28mm wide-angle lens with a 4.6x optical zoom. This comprises of 10 elements and a prism unit in 8 groups, including 1 ED lens and 5 aspherical lenses with 6 aspherical surfaces, a difficult feat even by today's standards, this advanced lens unit passes Leica's stringent standards to deliver exceptional optical performance to the edges even adopting the folded optics. The body is flat due to the retracting lens with folding optics without a fixed lens barrel. The folded optics have been adopted to secure the toughness of the lens unit.

Striking design – Stunning Specification

A key feature of the new DMC-FP8 is its high-speed AF, the industry's fastest in class level. Combined with a high-speed start-up of only 0.95 seconds, this gives the FP8 a fast response that helps to catch even the most fleeting photo opportunities. The 2.7-inch large Intelligent LCD offers dynamic and clear view out of its small body.


In image processing, luminance and chromatic noise are reduced separately before and after signal processing. This is further refined by separating noise two-dimensionally into high-frequency and low-frequency. The circuits then effectively reduce only the low-frequency to minimise the unwanted noise and help produce beautiful, sharp, still motion images.

This multi-task image-processing engine has a super-fast response time. The shutter release time lag is as short as approx. 0.006 seconds, making it easy to capture sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities. In burst shooting mode, the FP8 can snap approx. 2.3 shots per second at 12.1-megapixel full resolution*4. In High-speed Burst shooting mode, it fires off an incredible approx. 10 shots per second*5 and the Flash Burst mode makes it possible to take consecutive shots with continuous emissions of the flash*6



A (Intelligent Auto) Mode for Effortless Images

Panasonic's Intelligent Auto mode now includes POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabiliser) that offers twice the repression power of conventional image stabilisation systems. Hand-shake, which occurs when the shutter button is pressed or while shooting at night with a slow shutter speed, is effectively compensated by the new POWER O.I.S. to deliver blur-free photography. This improves the quality of shots taken at night or indoors without a flash.
The DMC-FP8 also features the popular Face Recognition mode, a function that “remembers” faces. When a familiar face is recorded several times, the camera will prompt the photographer to register the face. Once registered, the camera will display the name specified for the person if the familiar face appears again, and prioritize focus and exposure so that the registered face is bright and in sharp focus.

And when the angle of view is changed horizontally, the name display even rotates for easier reading.


Once you enter iA mode, these functions happen automatically along with other powerful shooting-assist functions – AF Tracking, Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector, Intelligent Exposure and Quick AF- so you can shoot without the bother of adjusting settings every time conditions change. You can enjoy easy, trouble-free shooting in any situation.

Create HD Movies Too

All Lumix cameras can take 1920 x 1080 pixel HD (high-definition) quality photos that perfectly fit a wide-screen (16:9) HDTV for full-screen viewing. The new DMC-FP8 even records dynamic HD motion pictures in 1280 x 720p at a smooth 30 fps, in addition to WVGA (848 x 480) and normal VGA (640 x 480) . With HD component output capability, you can enjoy watching still and motion pictures in stunning HD quality taken by your DMC-FP8 by simply connecting the camera to a TV via an optional component cable (DMW-HDC2).


In addition, with the included software PHOTOfunSTUDIO 4.0, it is easy to view and edit your recorded contents, making it easy to view all your families’ special moments in high definition. You may also choose to upload your videos to YouTube or burn them to a DVD disc for archiving.

A total of 27 scene modes are available with the DMC-FP8 and the High Dynamic mode is a new addition for the DMC-FP8. The Photo Frame mode allows you to shoot images with fine frame-like decorations, making them the perfect gift. The High Dynamic mode helps to capture a scene with moderate exposure to give you the best results. The user can select one of three options, Standard, Art, or B/W, depending on personal taste to get the desired result.


In addition, the DMC-FP8 also has PHOTOfunStudio 4.0 as its included Software, making it easy to edit your recorded contents. You may also Choose to upload your videos to YouTube or burn them to a DVD disc for archiving.

Nikon has announced two additions to its DSLR line-up - the entry-level D3000 and the high-end D300S with HD movie capability.

What's New?

The D300S is the revived version of the popular D300 which was launched about two years ago. Featuring a 12.3 megapixel CMOS sensor and 51-point autofocus system, the D300S offers full 720p HD video recording, a 7 fps continuous shooting and Dual CF and SD card slots.

On the other hand, the D3000 will be the company's newest entry-level DSLR with features like a 10.2 MP DX-format CCD sensor and 3fps continuous shooting.

Its features include a 3-inch LCD and 11-point AF system with 3D tracking. Targeted towards beginners and experienced compact users, the camera features a new Guide mode to help learn how to get the most out of a DSLR. The recommended selling price will be $599 with 18-55mm VR lens.

Other Features

The D300S now features a new Quiet drive mode and a dedicated Live View and Info button as well. The D3000 offers a New Guide mode which provides a simple interface meant to help first-time users to select shooting modes. There's also in-camera photo editing and Nikon's Integrated Dust Reduction System in the camera.

Both cameras come with an Active D-Lighting function which claims to vastly improve shadows and highlights of high-contrast scenes.

Is this for you?

The D300 is still a popular choice for professionals and serious enthusiasts, so the entry of D300S with its given improvements should make new buyers happy. The D3000 is an entry-level DSLR hence, is intended for beginners and those ready for the compact digital camera to DSLR transition.

Both cameras will be available in the international markets August 2009 onwards, the D300S for $1799 (Rs. 86,335 approx.) and D3000 for $599.95 (Rs. 28,786 approx.). India availability of the cameras is not known yet.

The Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W1 features a new ‘Real 3D Lens System’ that captures 3D photos and video, it features two Fujinon lenses which captures the images and then put them together in 3D, it also has a 3 x optical zoom.


The 3D movie mode works similar to the still camera with both lens shooting the video at the same time. Viewing the 3D movies, and pics, are done on the FinePix 3D V1 digital photo frame that doesn’t require special glasses.

The glossy T90 is the latest in a line of fashion conscious Sony Cyber-shot touch screen compacts - coming after the T77 and T500. Like both earlier models it features a sliding faceplate that covers and protects the lens when not in use, and also acts as another means of activating the camera when it is slid open.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T90 is a slim and stylish ultra-compact digital camera featuring a metal body, sliding front plate and folded optics. Measuring 13.9mm thick, highlights of the T90 include a 12.1 megapixel sensor, 35-140mm equivalent 4x zoom lens, large 3.0-inch touch-sensitive rear screen, Super SteadyShot optical image stabilisation, face and smile detection technology, ISO 3200 and intelligent scene recognition. The Sony T90 also boasts 1280x720 pixel 720p HD movie recording with stereo sound and HDMI output. Available in silver, black, pink, blue and brown.



The T90 is based around a 1/2.3" SuperHAD CCD image sensor with 12.1 megapixel resolution coupled to a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar branded 4x optical zoom lens. It offers equivalent focal lengths that range from a 35mm wide angle to a 140mm telephoto, while the maximum aperture varies from f/3.5 to f/4.6 across the zoom range. Macro focusing is possible down to a minimum of one centimeter in what Sony dubs "magnifying glass" mode.. The T90 forgoes any optical viewfinder in favor of a 3.0" touch-panel wide-aspect LCD display with 230,000 dot resolution.

The Sony Cybershot T90 offers ISO sensitivity ranging from 80 to 3,200 equivalent, and includes both true mechanical image stabilization, as well as Digital Image Stabilization which functions by raising the camera's sensitivity (and along with it, the noise levels) so as to achieve a higher shutter speed and reduce motion blurring. The Sony T90 also offers face detection capable of differentiating between children and adults, recognizing and prioritizing one specific individual's face whenever they're present in a scene, and detecting when your subject blinks during an exposure. The T90 takes into account the locations of detected faces when calculating autoexposure and autofocus variables. There's even a dedicated "Smile Shutter" button which triggers the T90 to capture a photo upon detecting that the subject is smiling. This camera also features in-camera retouching capabilities, with soft focus, fish eye effect, cross filter, partial color, retro, radiation, red-eye correction, trimming, unsharp masking and smile effects on offer.



Other features include eleven scene modes plus an Intelligent Scene Recognition mode which automatically chooses between a subset of these modes, plus 720p MPEG-4 high-definition video, a Dynamic Range Optimizer function, and both USB / video output connections. The T90's svelte body is available in a range of colors including pink, brown, blue and black

Conclusion

Well, if you're OK with the idea of a touch screen - kind of intrinsic to this model - on the upside the T90 remains one of the more attractive credit card sized cameras out there. Use of said LCD fairly quickly becomes second nature with a bit of practice, and since basically everything about it is point and shoot in nature, as long as the user has a good eye, it's easy to take a decent photo.
