I recently noticed this news and took it by surprise that the Asian PC vendor Acer Inc of Taiwan on last Thursday launched five smart phones for the Indian market and announced it would be launching a total of nine models this year itself.
The smart handheld business group of Acer, which is the third largest vendor in the global PC market, launched its new line of smart handhelds in India as it wants to capture some territory of the immensly growing Indian mobile market. This represents a strategic move for the company which is now aspiring to become a significant player in the mobility market.
Acer is clearly not alone in this game. The urgency to move towards the mobile form factor has been shown by a number of other PC and peripherals vendors in recent past, most notable among them being the motherboard companies AsusTek and Gigabyte, and Indian peripherals manufacturer-retailer Intex among others.
The smartphones launched by Acer on Thursday are designed to cater to the demands of increasingly sophisticated handheld users, and signal the company‘s continued ambition to break down the barrier between technology and people, and to make mobile Internet attractive and accessible to all, claimed the company.
Now we move into the technical details which you guys are intrested in. Like most smartphone makers, Acer has not made a distinction between business and personal entertainment centred users. It has launched five handsets in order to provide the business-oriented users and technology savvy consumers with the mobility and the versatility of a mobile office and infotainment-on-the-go.
The new DX900 model offers a dual-SIM function, while DX650 takes user-interface convenience to new levels with a dual-face design, featuring a touchscreen on one side and keypad on the other. To cater to consumers seeking multiple features without having to carry several devices, the sleek and compact ACER X960 is touted as an all-purpose performer.
In addition, ACER F900 and ACER M900 have been specifically designed for web browsing on the go. The F900 has a new easy-to-use touch keyboard and is able to display more information on screen to offer a superior browsing experience, claimed Acer. For those who need access to email and files at all times, the M900 allows access to all contacts and files through synchronization with a notebook or desktop computer. An embedded biometric fingerprint sensor secures the device and simplifies password maintenance.
Besides these five, Acer also unveiled four other models that it aims to introduce in India this year.
